Doncaster Dons: CEO's Vision for Super League Success in 2026 (2026)

Doncaster's Ambitious Super League Dream: A 2026 Vision

Doncaster's Chief Executive, Carl Hall, has boldly declared the club's sights are set on a top-four finish in the Championship by 2026. This announcement comes after Doncaster was surprisingly overlooked for promotion to the Super League by an independent panel, keeping them in the second tier for at least another season. But don't let that setback fool you; the South Yorkshire club is charging into the new campaign with a palpable ambition to dominate and become a major force in the second tier.

Over the off-season, Doncaster has bolstered its squad with key signings, including Gadwin Springer, James Glover, Connor Jones, Muizz Mustapha, Cory Aston, and Tom Holmes. Under the guidance of coach Richard Horne, the team is optimistic about improving on last season's eighth-place finish. But here's where it gets controversial: Hall isn't just aiming for improvement; he's setting the bar high, targeting a top-four spot. The ultimate goal? A coveted place in the Super League.

"We're happy with how things are going, and it's a big year for the club," Hall stated. "We've made no secret, we're going for the top four, and I think everyone is really looking forward to the season." He emphasized the importance of teamwork, acknowledging potential challenges along the way. "The boys are training really hard, and they've had to switch it up a little bit because they condensed training with the season starting so early."

Hall also highlighted significant off-field investments, specifically in a new training facility. "We've had a massive investment off the field in our new facility, the training ground. It's all positive for the club; we're not just investing on the field but off it as well." He stressed the importance of aligning on-field performance with off-field development, especially with the influence of IMG, to ensure Doncaster is ready for Super League when the opportunity arises.

A New Era for the Championship

Doncaster is set to be part of a revamped Championship this year, with the second and third tiers merging into a 21-team competition. Hall is a strong advocate for this change, believing it's long overdue. "I've always been for it. It should have happened years ago," he added. He anticipates a highly competitive league, recognizing the strength of the teams coming up from League One.

"It should be a good league, and let's see what it's like in 12 months’ time when we’ve all sat down and had a look at it," Hall continued. He mentioned ongoing discussions with the RFL regarding the league's structure and future plans for 2027 and 2028. "I said in the meeting, we might sit here in 12 months’ time going ‘how good was that?’"

He is looking forward to the exciting games and potential upsets the Championship will bring. "Looking forward to it, there’s going to be some good games, some upsets, the Championship is a tough league, but we’re looking forward to it."
