Mitsubishi Power's H-25 Gas Turbine Boosts Taiwan's Energy Efficiency! (2026)

A Major Leap for Taiwan's Energy Future: Mitsubishi Power Secures Second H-25 Gas Turbine for Chang Chun Petrochemical's Miaoli Factory

Press Release

2025-11-12

  • A 30 MW-capacity turbine is set to start operations by late 2028, providing both electricity and steam for industrial processes.
  • The project aligns with Taiwan's energy policy goals by boosting plant efficiency and lowering CO2 emissions.

Tokyo, November 12, 2025 – Mitsubishi Power, the power solutions arm of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has officially received a new order for an H-25 gas turbine from Chang Chun Petrochemical Co., Ltd., facilitated through Mitsubishi Corporation Machinery, Inc. This marks an important milestone in Taiwan's transition toward cleaner energy.

Chang Chun Petrochemical is advancing an ambitious plan to transform the cogeneration operations at its Miaoli Factory, located in Miaoli City, north-central Taiwan. The facility, which currently relies on heavy oil and coal-fired boilers, will be upgraded to a high-efficiency natural gas-fired cogeneration system. At the heart of this transformation is the H-25 gas turbine, which will deliver an estimated output of 30 MW. Operations are scheduled to commence around the end of 2028, supplying both electricity and steam to support the factory’s manufacturing processes. Mitsubishi Power will not only supply the main turbine and all auxiliary equipment but also send engineers to assist with installation and commissioning, ensuring a seamless transition.

Interestingly, this is not Mitsubishi Power's first collaboration with Chang Chun Petrochemical at the Miaoli site. In 2023, the company received its initial H-25 gas turbine order, with operations expected to begin in summer 2026. This new order represents the second H-25 turbine for the same factory. By enhancing plant efficiency and cutting CO2 emissions, this project strongly supports Taiwan’s national energy objectives and reflects the country's commitment to cleaner industrial energy solutions.

Chang Chun Petrochemical is a flagship company within the Chang Chun Group, one of Taiwan's leading petrochemical conglomerates. Headquartered in Taipei, the group operates numerous subsidiaries and manufacturing sites both domestically and internationally.

Mitsubishi Power has maintained a longstanding relationship with Chang Chun Group, supplying key equipment to its power generation and cogeneration facilities since 1984. Over the years, the company has delivered nine steam turbines and five boilers while continuing to provide comprehensive after-sales support. This latest H-25 turbine order underscores the deep trust and strong partnership that have developed between the two organizations over decades.

The H-25 gas turbine is renowned for its reliability and proven long-term operational performance. Since the first order in 1987, more than 200 units have been delivered and are in operation globally. Integrating the H-25 into cogeneration systems allows facilities to operate more efficiently and significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to traditional boiler-based methods that burn fuel directly.

Looking ahead, Mitsubishi Power aims to expand its presence in the distributed power generation sector, including industrial private power and cogeneration systems worldwide. This strategy not only strengthens industrial infrastructure but also contributes to reducing energy-related environmental impacts on a global scale.
