The 2026 WorldSBK season is off to a challenging start, and the opening round might just be a wild ride! 🏍️
Weather wreaks havoc on preseason testing:
Sam Lowes, a seasoned rider, has an intriguing take on the upcoming World Superbike Championship. He believes the first round could be 'interesting' due to the disrupted preseason testing caused by unpredictable weather.
Both winter tests were drenched in rain, leaving teams and riders with limited dry running opportunities. Riders managed a mere 20 laps in Jerez's tricky conditions, and only a few braved the mostly dry but tricky conditions at Portimao, as Garrett Gerloff vividly described. It seems the weather gods weren't on the riders' side!
But here's where it gets controversial: despite the setbacks, Lowes hints at a potential silver lining. He suggests that the limited testing could lead to some unexpected results in the opening round, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.
Adapting to new challenges:
Lowes, like many others, has struggled to adapt to his new motorcycle due to the weather-affected testing. However, he remains confident in the capabilities of his team, Marc VDS, and Ducati, to provide him with a competitive bike. He acknowledges the frustration but maintains faith in his support system.
"I think it's frustrating, but I trust my team and Ducati," Lowes expressed. "The new bike has potential, and I'm not too concerned. I just wish we had more dry laps before heading to Australia."
So, will the opening round be a level playing field or a chaotic affair? Only time will tell. And this is the part most people miss: how will the riders' adaptability and resilience shine through in the face of these challenges?
